I Tried Perplexity Labs and it turns your idea to reality

I am sure you have already used Perplexity for searching a query or doing deep research on a topic. What I personally love about this tool is the accessibility to several LLMs in a single interface — you have the option to select a model of your choice, or it automatically pulls a model that is well suited for your query. Now, Perplexity is here with a new feature — Labs. Perplexity Labs is an AI-powered creation engine that handles complex projects, from reports to web apps. It combines deep research, code execution, and data visualization to turn ideas into reality in minutes.

What is Perplexity AI and How is it Different from Deep Research?

Perplexity Labs is like having an AI co-pilot for your complex projects. It can build everything from reports and spreadsheets to dashboards and even simple web apps, powered by deep research, code execution, and visual tools. What used to take days? Labs gets it done in minutes.

Regular Perplexity is great for answering questions or doing research. But Labs takes it further; it can create full projects with multiple parts: documents, images, presentations, code, and more. Think of it as a creative engine, not just a research tool.

And the best part? You’re always in control, edit steps, skip tasks, or add instructions anytime.

How to Access Perplexity Labs?

Follow these simple steps to use this tool:

  1. Subscribe to Perplexity Pro
  2. Labs is available exclusively for Pro users, who receive 50 Labs queries per month. This limit includes both new prompts and follow-up interactions in existing Labs threads. You’ll receive a notification as you approach your monthly quota.
  1. Open the Mode Selector
  2. On the web or mobile app, click the mode selector next to the input field.
  3. Select “Labs” Mode
  4. Choose Labs to launch the AI project builder.
  5. Enter Your Prompt
  6. Describe what you want, e.g., “Create a dashboard,” “Build a landing page,” or “Write a market report.”
  7. Control the Workflow
  8. You can pause or cancel a Labs search at any time by clicking the pause button or pressing Esc on your keyboard.
  9. Review Outputs in the Assets Tab
  10. All generated content (code, charts, images, documents, etc.) is organized under the Assets tab, where you can easily view or download files.

Examples of Perplexity Labs

I’m pretty excited to try out Perplexity Labs, but since I’m not on the Pro plan yet, I’m holding off until it (hopefully!) rolls out to free users. That said, people are already sharing some incredible use cases online, and I’ve picked the top 5 examples for you to explore.

Prompt: Create charts and an interactive dashboard to help me understand how my business’s finances (CSV attached)

Output:

Observation:

If the user asked the same thing to deep research it would have given an analysis in text format. Here, the Labs feature did deep research + created engaging visualizations for each data point, make the overall report much more simple and consumable.

Example 2: Create a Customer List for Startup

Prompt: “We are a tech consulting firm with in-depth research on technologies in the Gen AI field. Please create a potential customer list for us. The target companies are B2B American companies in the development stage before Series B that need AI technology empowerment. List at least 15 companies, clearly stating their contact information, company business introductions, addresses, and other specific details. Make a dashboard.”

Observation:

Perplexity Labs adhered very well to the prompt provided. The request was for a list of 15 pre-Series B, B2B American companies that could benefit from AI technology, along with detailed company information and a dashboard. The output delivered exactly that — an organized and well-researched list of companies across sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, media, and cybersecurity. Each entry included funding stage, contact information, location, and business focus, aligning precisely with the request.

The generated dashboard summarized key metrics, offered filtering options, and highlighted AI implementation opportunities. Perplexity Labs further added value by suggesting strategic outreach approaches and even drafting personalized introduction emails for each lead.

Example 3: Storyboarding and Images

Prompt: Develop a short sci-fi film concept in noir style about a 30 year old female scientist living on Mars in the future when a calamity hits. Create 9 storyboards and a full screenplay

Output:

Observation:

Perplexity Labs executed the prompt exceptionally well, transforming a complex request into a complete sci-fi noir concept. It delivered a detailed film idea, “Red Dust Conspiracy” set on Mars, centered around Dr. Elise Jensen, a 30-year-old scientist caught in a deadly conspiracy. The output includes rich world-building, a clear noir aesthetic adapted to Martian conditions, strong character development, and a nine-scene storyboard that mirrors classic noir structure. It also generated a full screenplay with voiceover narration, visual direction, and scientifically grounded elements. The result stays highly faithful to the prompt, with strong thematic alignment and narrative depth.

Example 4: Personal Research Work

Prompt: “My partner and I want to buy a property around New York City in an area with a low crime rate and good schools for our 2 kids for under $1 million. Research and analyze the best areas for my criteria. Then identify the best 10 properties within those areas we should consider, and include a table that evaluates them based on my criteria.

Output:

Observation:

Perplexity Labs delivered an impressively detailed and relevant output based on the user’s prompt to find family-friendly properties under $1 million near NYC. It accurately identified safe neighborhoods with good schools, including Riverdale, New Rochelle, and City Island, and provided a ranked list of 10 properties that matched budget, safety, and education criteria. The output included neighborhood overviews, property comparisons, school ratings, commute times, and even a detailed evaluation table. Overall, the output matched the prompt exceptionally well and added valuable context, making it a highly effective and actionable result.

Conclusion

Perplexity Labs isn’t just another AI feature, it’s a powerful co-creator that turns your ideas into polished, actionable outputs. Whether you’re building dashboards, drafting screenplays, or researching real estate, Labs bridges the gap between ideation and execution in ways that feel almost magical. What used to take days of searching, compiling, designing, and editing now happens in minutes, all while keeping you in control. As more people explore what Labs can do, it’s clear this is more than a productivity tool, it’s a creativity engine for the AI-first era.
