ChatGPT Launched A NEW Feature That’s CRAZY! New MCP connectors for Google Drive, Box

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is adding new features for business users, including integrations with different cloud services, meeting recordings, and MCP connection support for connecting to tools for deep research.

Introduction to ChatGPT’s New Features

ChatGPT has long been at the forefront of AI advancements, offering innovative solutions for various sectors. The latest updates bring a suite of features designed to streamline workflows and enhance user interaction. Among these, the meeting recording functionality stands out as a game-changer for professionals who rely on accurate documentation and seamless collaboration.

As part of the launch, ChatGPT is gaining connectors for Dropbox, Box, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive. This allows ChatGPT to look for information across users’ own services to answer their questions. For instance, an analyst could use the company’s slide deck and documents to build out an investment thesis.

OpenAI said that the new feature will follow an organization’s access control hierarchy.

Recording and transcription of meetings, now a table-stakes feature of the productivity suites, is also now available. The feature can generate notes with time-stamped citations and suggest actions. Users will be able to query for information in their meeting notes, as they can with documents and files across the integrated services. Plus, users can convert action items into a Canvas document.

The feature competes with ClickUp, Zoom, and, more recently,Notion, which have all added some type of transcription and meeting summarization features to their products.

In addition, the company is introducing deep research connectors for HubSpot, Linear, and select Microsoft and Google tools in beta. OpenAI said that users can now prepare detailed research reports through Deep Research using knowledge and data from these sources, along with web information. OpenAI said connectors are available to all paid users.

Customers can also use MCP (model context protocol) to connect to other tools for deep research. MCP support will be available to Pro, Team, and Enterprise users, the company said.

Types of connectors:

Chat search connectors

Quick, one‑off searches that are great for everyday tasks like back-and-forth iteration, synthesizing content across sources, and quickly finding the files or context you need. Ask questions like “Show me Q2 goals in Drive” or “Find last week’s roadmap in Box.” Results appear inline with links to open the original file.

Deep research connectors

For more complex tasks, run deep research queries across many sources — perfect for competitive analysis, incident retros, or code reviews. Deep research can use connectors to read, reason over, and cite internal sources, alongside the web, to produce fully cited reports.

Great use‑case examples:

  • “Summarize everything we shipped in the last two sprints across PR descriptions, design docs, and spec files.”
  • “Compare our feature adoption numbers with industry benchmarks mentioned in analyst reports.”
  • “Find the root cause of the outage referenced in yesterday’s post‑mortem and list the follow‑up actions.”

Synced connectors (Google Drive)

Sync and index selected content from your connected sources in advance, so you have up‑to‑date information on-demand in your workspace’s knowledge base. This enables ChatGPT to answer questions even faster and can improve the quality of responses, without re‑querying each source.

Custom connectors

Custom connectors are also available for (a) ChatGPT Pro users and (b) workspace owners and admins for ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces. With this feature, you can add custom connectors that follow the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect to custom third-party apps and your internal sources.

Overview of Meeting Recording Functionality

The introduction of meeting recording capabilities within ChatGPT marks a significant leap forward in AI-driven productivity tools. This feature allows users to record meetings effortlessly, ensuring that no detail is lost. With the ability to transcribe conversations in real-time, ChatGPT provides an invaluable resource for professionals who need to revisit discussions and extract key information.

Moreover, the integration of AI-powered transcription ensures that the recorded content is not only accurate but also easily searchable. This means users can quickly find specific topics or discussions without having to sift through hours of audio. For businesses, this translates into enhanced efficiency and the ability to maintain comprehensive records of all meetings.

Make ChatGPT more actionable and personalized with your own data sources or company knowledge, now available on demand. Connectors let ChatGPT securely connect to third‑party applications — like Google Drive, GitHub, or SharePoint — so you can search files, pull live data, and reference content right in the chat.

Depending on your plan and role, you can:

  • Search connected apps in a chat to help with everyday tasks, previewing results inside ChatGPT.
  • Run deep research for complex projects that require deep analysis across multiple sources at once, with citations back to the originals.
  • Sync and index select knowledge sources in advance, to speed up and help improve ChatGPT’s answers.

Details on Connectors for Google Drive, Box, and More

In addition to meeting recording, ChatGPT’s new features include robust connectors for popular cloud storage platforms such as Google Drive and Box. These connectors facilitate seamless integration, allowing users to store and access their recorded meetings and transcriptions directly from their preferred cloud storage service.

Impact on Productivity and Collaboration

The introduction of these new features by ChatGPT is poised to have a profound impact on productivity and collaboration across industries. By enabling easy recording and storage of meetings, businesses can ensure that all team members have access to critical information, regardless of their location or time zone.

Moreover, the integration with cloud storage platforms ensures that data is not only secure but also easily shareable. This fosters a collaborative environment where team members can work together seamlessly, regardless of their physical location.

What does ChatGPT share with connected applications?

When you enable a connector, ChatGPT can send and retrieve information from the connected app in order to find information relevant to your prompts and use them in its responses. For example, if the GitHub connector is enabled and you ask, “Can you show me where I handled file uploads in the backend?”, then ChatGPT might send a query to GitHub like “file upload handler backend.” If needed, it may send a few different queries to find the most relevant information.

If you have “Memory” enabled, when ChatGPT sends a query to connected apps, it may also leverage relevant information from memories to make the query better and more useful. For example, if the user has “Memory” turned on and their memories mention working in a repo called acme-uploader, and they ask “Can you show me where I handled file uploads in the backend?”, ChatGPT might include “acme-uploader” in the query.

How to connect to a new application

  1. Select your profile icon in the top-right corner and click Settings
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Connectors
  4. Click Connect on the application
  5. You will be redirected to the respective application’s login flow. Sign in, grant permission, and review the content ChatGPT can access if connected.

How to use connectors

  1. Open a new chat in ChatGPT.
  2. Click Tools
  3. Click Search connectors (for Chat Search) or Run deep research.
  4. Select one or more sources.
  5. Ask your question.
  6. When reviewing ChatGPT’s response, click a citation to open it in the native connected app.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the latest updates to ChatGPT represent a significant advancement in AI technology, offering features that enhance productivity, collaboration, and data management. The meeting recording functionality, combined with seamless cloud storage integration, provides users with a powerful toolset that supports efficient workflows and informed decision-making.
